Opening a Barclays account: an hour?

I've booked an appointment to open a basic account at Barclays and the lady on the information desk said a couple of strange things.
First, she said the policy is that you have to book an appointment to open one and that it can't be within 48 hours of making the appointment. So I went in on Tuesday, but the earliest they could see me was Thursday.
Second, she said that the process takes an hour. Really? What on earth are we going to be doing for an hour?

Unfortunately yep, it will take about an hour - Mine did (of course then they closed the account a week later - still not sure why) that shouldnt happen to you though, I put it down to me moving house so much lol
They; like many other banks now have this whole, get to know your customer style form, so they ask all sorts like hobbies, what you do for work, married/single and all kinds of things like that!
Nothing to worry about though, you might manages to wriggle out a bit earlier if your lucky :rotfl:0 -
yep mine took just over an hour, most of the time was taken up asking stupid questions like what are your hobbies, what are you aspirations etc etc. They will also ask about insurance and try to sell you their alternative. I had already filled in the application form and had all the supporting paperwork and it still took ages.0

I to like you had to book an appointment, as the branch I used did not have a personal banker, again it took just under an hour to sort it.:pB&SC No. 298

i popped into Barclays, asked the assistant there for a basic account application form, filled it in, then was seen by an adviser for about 10 minutes, all he did was check I'd filled in the form correctly, take my ID and photocopy it, and that was it. He didn't open the account there and then, but about 10 days later I got my account details etc through the post.
I think I was just lucky - it was a Saturday and all the advisers were pretty busy

Well I went in, saw someone an hour later and it all got sorted in an hour....
By that time, I had 3 accounts complete with sort codes and account numbers. Cash account, savings account, and an ISA account with a small cash deposit in each. Maybe it depends which branch you go to?0 -
