Private plate putting on new car....
going to pick my new car up a week on friday!!
Just ordered a private plate but have no experience of what you have to do to get them on the car? Do i have to go to a DVLA office in my new car (with the old plates on) then get the new ones sorted then go somewhere to get them put on for me?
On the plate website that i've ordered them from its giving me an option that they will sort out the transfer for £25!! would this mean that when i pick the car up i could have them put on there and then at the garage?

The selling dealer can sort it all for you if you show them the reg transfer doc.

Excellent
You should get a doc in the post (probably V778), which if you give that to the dealer, they will get the plates and fit them before you pick it up. We've done many...

You've obviously signed up to their own in house version then. Dealer could've done it, but if it's organised already then they cant get involved.:A Luke 6:38 :AThe above post is either from personal experience or is my opinion based on the person God has made me and the way I understand things. Just make sure the new plates are road legal.

got car last friday but still haven't got the V5 doc through yet. Do i need this before i can go to DVLA to get my plate put on or will they do it without?0

You will need all your documents and you will need to go to your local vehicle licensing centre, then while you wait they will change the reg no's on your MOT and Tax Disc and your V5 will be sent to DVLA. You will have to inform your insurer straight away otherwise the reg on the car will not match the reg on the insurance.

Used to be done on the day up to 3 or 4yrs ago, 2yrs ago I had to wait 5 working days (Stretford LVLO) but the dealer was able to collect by pre-arranged appointment. Last month (Preston LVLO) it took 8 working days (10 in total) and the dealer had to wait for the docs to be returned by post.
That was on vehicle to vehicle transfers, whether it's any quicker where the number is held on a retention or entitlement certificate, which I presume is the case for the OP, I really couldn't say. However, when I fairly recently sold the wife's car I put her number on retention and did it all by post, still to the LVLO, and it took about 10 days to get the cert and her "year number" authority back.0 -
I've never had to go to the DVLA, all done by post.
But what does make me smile if they issue a new registration doc which then entitles you to purchase the new plates, leaving you to "dispose" of the old ones , suprising considering all the hoohah associated with obtaining plates in the 1st place.
Of course they are almost allways reissued to that car when the number gets transferred again so best kept untill you sell it.;)I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0
