iTunes startup problem

Options
Following the download and installation of an iTunes software update, I lost all my music from the iTunes library, but not the actual music files. Fortunately I had a backup of the "iTunes Music Library.xml" file so I followed Apple's process for re-creating the "iTunes Library.itl" file. It seemed to work without a problem and I recovered my iTunes library.

Now, however, whenever I start iTunes it appears not to recognise the "iTunes Library.itl" file and goes through the process of creating another and changing the name of the old .itl file to "iTunes Library(Damaged).itl".

I have spoken to Apple Support, but they have not been able to help. Anyone any idea of how to stop this iTunes startup problem?

uninstall, reinstall from scratch then just have it search again for your music files and rebuild your library afresh?

why waste any more time on it than that?
  • Tried that, but with the same result. Any other ideas?
