Evening all,
I filled out the benefits adviser form on .gov website and it said me and my wife could claim just over £200 a week for WTC and £65 a week for CTC, theses amounts seem very high for are current income. I then filled in the form on the HMRC website and it said we could claim only £450 odd a year CTC and nothing for WTC. I dont uderstand how these figures ate so differant?
I earn £25k a year and my wife is just going back to work after being off for a year, her new job will pay 9k for 20hrs a week. My son is just comming upto a year old (the reason my wife has been of work) My wife got made redundent from her last job whilst she was pregnant. Her new job means my little boy will need child care for 3 mornings a week. Any ideas if we should be entittled to anything?

You definatly wont get WTC, the cut off is just under 18k. You will only get the basic amount of CTC also which is £545 per year.
You may get a very small help with childcare costs0 -
You may find that part of the discrepancy between the two different calculation sites is that maybe the HMRC site took into account the fact that your son will be one year old soon - I think you get extra monies when the child is under one year of age.
On family income of £34000 per year you definitely won't get WTC, but may get part of the childcare element.0 -
Do they also look at last years income? Because last year my wife only earned about £2000 and we was only getting £21 a week CTC.
I also spoke to HMRC on the phone, they advised I could recive about £183 a week???
I don't want to accept a payment and then end up having to pay back loads of money. All figures I've given HMRC are from our p60's
I earned 24k last tax year and my wife earned 2k
This tax year I should earn 25k and my wife about 7k by the end of the tax year.0 -
the entitlement tables are here
http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/taxcredits/people-advise-others/entitlement-tables/work-and-child/work-no-childcosts.htm
without childcare costs you will get £545 per year once your child is one (even based on last years income)
the amount they refer to is possibly the max you would receive if you both work over 16 hours and your childcare costs are £175 per week (so you would be left with £8 per week after the childcare if this was the case)

I spoke to HMRC about WTC.
My circumstances are different to yours. I am single with no dependants.
I was told if I earn less than £13,163 a year then I am entitled to WTC. If I earn zero income in a year then I would get £52 a week. The amount per week reduces the closer you earn to £13,163 per year, and once you earn 13,164 you dont get any WTC.0
