I have a compaq laptop (windows 7) that this afternoon was accessing the internet through my netgear modem router dgn1000
This evening it was no longer doing so. The router's SSID is appearing as an available network, but when I try and select it the network is shown as an unknown public network that does not access the internet.
I can still access the internet through the router from 3 other machines, and the 2 windows vista m/cs are shown as part of the network on the compaq.
If I 'ping' the ip address of the router from the compaq it fails.
I am running out of options. If I run the windows troubleshooter it's first option is to power down the router and restart (why when other PC's and a macbook can reach the internet through it) which I have tried, and then it says to connect to the internet to continue troubleshooting (not sure whether to
or :rotfl:)
Help please

have you used the lappy on another network in between? eg btopenzone . Failing that select open network ad sharing Center, go to manage wireless networks , remove and then re-add it. There is an option to change the properties but I can't remember how to access it..... ignore that on the network sharing centre under the line saying view active networks your's probably say public, (underlined) click that then change to home.
