Right here's a question that might not be able to be answered, but..

How much of their decision is down to the credit search and how much is down to account history (i.e. length of service, payments etc) ?

Can't give a definate answer but only my experience:

A&L card - Have had for about 5 years, requested increase from £2k to £4.5k over the phone and this was done immediately.

GE card - Had for 1 month, requested increase from £2.5k and lady I spoke to offered me £3.5k over the phone (with immediate effect).

Both of these are cashback cards and I pay balance off in full every month.

    Well, they rejected me request.

Should never have reduced my credit limit.
