You need to think of your health and yourself and what is best for you, I gave up work to look after my 3 year old who has various problems I know it is a hard decision to make but do what makes it easier for you there is no point in pushing yourself over the edge take some time out.at the end of the day you are all the kids have and you need to think of that to. If you need to chat feel free to pm me hun.
thankyou , it is gut wrenching whichever way i look at it !
i need to know if i would be entitled to claim income support until my youngest is 7 , as i don't want to give up and then find out i am not able to get any help

anxiousmum i am only just qualified at level 2 so that would be impossible and add to my stress load
i do not recieve any dla or anything , i haven't claimed it as i think there are people worse off who deserve it and don't get it.
By claiming it yourself, you are not denying it to others who are worse off.
The problem lies, that if you don't claim it, you don't receive many of your other entitlements that would come with it.
After all, if you are entitled to it, there is no need to martyr yourself by not claiming it. Your share doesn't go to a more worthy cause. In fact, it'll probably be used to prop up some bank that pays billions in bonuses. All over the place, from the popular culture to the propaganda system, there is constant pressure to make people feel that they are helpless, that the only role they can have is to ratify decisions and to consume.0 -

sorry to clarify , i meant that although my son has ADHD and causes me a lot extra work , i didn't think it was bad enough to claim dla , which is after all DISABILITY living allowance .
i'm not being a martyr , i just assumed it didn't apply to us x0 -

Yes you would be entitled to claim Income support I know it is a hard decision to make but you do need to think of your health who will look after your kids if you make yourself ill? As for claiming DLA I understand how you feel it took me 11 months of people having a go at me before I claimed it for my son i was convinced he wouldn't get it (probably because I had a problem accepting my son had problems to me he was normal my little boy!)listen to what Deepmistrust has said it is so true.:jmember of the thrifty gifty 2011 :j0 -

Sorry, I read your post as though you don't claim it on the basis that others are worse off than you.
Well, I don't know the in's an out's as to whether he would qualify or not. My point is, that IF he does qualify, then not claiming will affect whether you can claim IS or not (beyond his 7th b'day) - as someone else pointed out, so maybe it's an idea to see if you qualify for this too?All over the place, from the popular culture to the propaganda system, there is constant pressure to make people feel that they are helpless, that the only role they can have is to ratify decisions and to consume.0 -
thankyou to all who have replied , i was mostly worried that because i am choosing not to work anymore they would make me wait 26 weeks before claiming or something.
i don't understand the system very well.0 -

Hey Mummyof5 - DLA and such are there to be used by those who need it. You are definitely not some workshy scrounger looking for the easy life - you are raising your children, you have IBS yourself, you have a high needs child. You could've sat at home the past while on IS, instead you have obtained qualifications to provide a better life for your family, and you are working! All of this together with travel etc., is making you ill. These benefits are there for us to use when a time come that we need them.
Remember, before you can take care of your family properly, you first need to make sure that YOU are fine as well......you've worked hard, you're pushing yourself to the limit - only you know how stressed you are, how this is affecting your health etc.
I have five kids, (our kids age ranges sound very similar) a partner, both of us working school times only - and it's hard enough without any other issues on top of it!0 -

thankyou , i feel that people are going to judge me as exactly that , a huge reason why i continue getting in debt to get to work each day . stupid i know , but i am such a proud person and have worked hard to get into work in the first place .
thanks for your encouraging words ,it means so much xx0 -
You can still be proud and accept what you are entitled to. It's not charity - you'll be contributing back to it again when you go back to work - but also raising five children who know that you work for what you get - and when they grow up and get into employment and benefiting from the choices you have made - you can be darned proud then!0
