Brand New Allotment Site Help Needed Please...
Hello everyone, wondered if any of you clever people could offer me some advice, I have just acquired my first ever allotment which I'm thrilled about as currently grow everything in pots at home...It is a new site which was turfed but now the turf has been pulled up and it's over to me....a lot of the advice about where to start when you first get a plot seems to assume that the ground needs weeding/rotivating but but this isn't the case here...
What should I do...was going to head over with a garden claw type tool and turn the ground over whilst mixing in the free manure that's provided, breaking up all the clumps of earth....but is there anything else I should do/add to prepare the ground...? How soon then do you think I could start planting? Thankyou in advance for your help and advice, Keely

I got mine a few weeks back. One think i have found is weeds grow quick. If you have areas you wont be planting on for a while get them covered with something dark and heavy like old carpet or something similar.
Planting time depends on what you want to plantMF aim 10th December 2020 :j:eek:MFW 2012 no86 OP 0/2000

Before you do mix in the manure, it may well be worth checking that someone has done their research about contaminated manure.
It can be contaminated by aminopyralid pesticide. Do a search for it on the web and on here.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0
