Hello, could anyone advise me please? I would like to take some wildlife pics and I don't know what camera/lens would be the best to purchase - I am a very amateur photographer with an interst in wildlife/birds that sort of thing - any input or ideas welcome, thanks in advance

You'll need a reasonable DSLR. £300 - £400. Such as:-
http://direct.tesco.com/search/default.aspx?search=Nikon+D3000&confirm.x=0&confirm.y=0
You'll need a reasonable telephoto lens for this camera. Such as:
http://www.bristolcameras.co.uk/p-sigma-150-500mm-f5-6-3-dg-os-hsm-lens.htm (You could get the Nikon lens but that is over £4000 !!!)
You might need: Lens doubler....£250, Tripod & Monopod...£200, spare camera battery, filters.... £200. Carrying bag, £50.
You will need: ££££££££££ and lots of patience !
Taken with above lens on a Nikon D40:-0 -
One piece of advice, get as close as you can, without disturbing the subject rather than use a VERY long lens.0

Or you could try setting up food on a bird table; put your camera on a tripod quite close to the bird table; focus it manually on the bird table (if necessary); fire it using a remote release cable. Not quite so £££ but probably a bit more hit and miss. And you might not get quite such exotic birds.
If you don't have a camera... try a 2nd hand digital one first.0 -

Been keen photographer since early 70s, bathroom as darkroom, etc and can say that is pretty fair advice. Or you could hide in the bushes for hours on end with a compact if you like.A fool may give advice but the one who takes it is the bigger fool.0 -
