Windows 7 - Start Menu Problems

Not sure what's happened here but the contents of my Start Menu>All Programs list seem to have disappeared. For example, if I click on All Programs>Games the folder is empty yet I know I can access the games via another route. Similarly, there is no icon within the start menu for Windows Media Center - I have had to go into the Windows folder itself to locate the folder/file and then copy and paste it to the Desktop and Start Menu. It is a genuine copy of Windows 7 and on first installation, all programs and applications were present. I feel that I have paid a lot of money (for Windows 7 Ultimate) and now can't locate the full range of facilities and applications available.
Thanks for any help/advice

You might have too many program shortcuts in the folder.
Have a look at C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs0 -
gaming_guy: there is another user account on the PC and it is just the same
alanowell: I will check out the folder you suggest.
Thanks to both of you for your replies and I'll post the outcome.0 -
How to Restore Windows 7 Start Menu to Default Settings
1. Right Click on taskbar and select properties
2. Click on Start Menu Tab and click customize button
3. Now click on “Use Default Settings” button at the bottom of customize window.
That’s it, now your Windows 7 start menu is restored to default settings.Microsoft Certified IT Professional x 3 (Vista - Enterprise and Consumer, Server 2008)

Did you play around with permissions, especially in the "All Users" folder?
As Administrator open "%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Start Menu\Programs" and have a look in all subfolders. Are your programs (shortcuts) there?0
