this is a techie question, sort of, Was just watching the Spain v Switzerland match on TV and kept thinking there is something missing, Then suddenly it hit me "where have the half-way touchline flags gone" When did they stop using them?

Did you back your flags up? Maybe you could go back through restore points till you find them again. Try starting with 2006, maybe you'll find them in \Berlin\backup.

only the corner flags are mandatory.

There is no real purpose for the half way line flags.
