Not cheap but I can highly recommend the Four Seasons in Sultanahmet.0

We stayed at the Darussaade Hotel - it was fantastic and v reasonable when we booked in via Expedia:)

look for taksim area, cheaper than old city.0

We stayed at the Golden Horn Hotel in Sultanahmet. It was around £70/night for a triple room, so not mega cheap, but not hugely expensive either.
It was a great location. We only went to Taksim to change buses-stay in Sultanahmet if you can.import this0
