Homebase Pricing

Yesterday I reserved on line a dehumidifier to be picked up from my local Homebase store - Bicester. I got a confirmation email which included the price, £79.99. I went to pick it up today and the guy in the store rung up £89.99. I told him that was the wrong price and showed him the confirmation email. He told me that the price you pay is not the price quoted on the internet, but the price in store. Needless to say I left and have now got one from Argos. The last time I will shop at Homebase. What a rip-off, surely it can't be right that they have one price on the internet but that you can't know what you will be charged until you get to the store???

This is also Argos' policy. I can understand it as a way of dealing with misprices, but it's annoying, I agree. I doubt there is anything you can do about it though.
I have a feeling Argos and Homebase are all part of the same group.0 -
I didn't realise that, I have obviously been lucky with Argos so far as never had this issue with them!0

You probably should have asked for a manager, I'm thinking this is a simple mistake by an inexperienced cashier rather than a conspiracy theory to cheat you out of £10.
Incidentally, if you're that disgusted with homebase, I'd return that thing you just got from Argos because they're part of the conspiracy - they are one and the same company if you stop to look behind the curtain...If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything0 -

I don't think this is a mis-pricing issue as such, I think a number of stores (PC World do this too, for one other example) offer a "Web price" and a "shop price" and allow you reserve an item online and pay the "web price" when you collect the item in-store.If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything0 -
RM is correct - there can often be a big price difference too, but I do think Argos (and therefore presumably Homebase as they are the same company) have a policy of not honouring the reserved price if prices have changed that day. It is wrong in my opinion though, as you could reserve a half-price item, make a long trip, and find it had doubled in price.
If you phone to reserve at Argos, they say this, and personally like the OP, I would not be prepared to pay more than the reserved price.0
