BT Broadband charges

I was upgraded for free to 20mb about a year or two ago. Never, ever got close to that. Now, suddenly the bill has come in and BT have charge for over usage. £1 per gig. I'm an IT engineer. I'm a technet subscriber so have downloaded almost all of MS software library from their technet site (legal), linux distro's, various BBC radio iPlayer streams, iPlayer shows and online gaming.

What are my legal rights to object to this overcharge? I was never warned this would happen. Although the bill isn't in my name.

From right now I am cancelling BT and going with a provider who DOESN'T charge.

Its not an over charge you agreed to the charges when you started the contract.

We started the contract about 10 years ago. There were no charges then. I've gone over the cap several times over the years and never been charged.

BT will let you off with a warning the first time (an email) and charge you the second time. If you think it's cheaper to do so, why not upgrade to their unlimited tariff?

This applies whatever your download speed.

You must live in cloud cuckoo land to think that your Contract has not changed (many) times over the years with BT - I've been with them since 1997 and nearly EVERY year you always get a 'Change to Terms and Conditions' either as part of the paper magazine they send (usually) or a separate sheet inside with the Bill.

You should have read those and realised that BT always reserved the right to charge for you going over: I agree, they didnt used to do that - but fact is, they do now.

Best way to look at it is that you didnt pay for all the other times!
