Problems with computer/itunes not recognising my ipod classic

My computer/itunes no longer recognises my apple ipod classic:(. I have tried putting it in disc mode but still no luck. Any ideas?

Try the obvious - use a different USB port - then a different PC to isolate the problem to Ipod or PC. Maybe a dodgy lead?
  • Tried different leads ports and even another pc. Seems that this is now quite a common problem since the new version of itunes came out. Apple are washing their hands of it and saying that it is a coincidence.

Do you have a PC available that doesn't have iTunes installed?
Can you connect it to this, and see if it's recognised as an external drive?

Does the computer with iTunes show it as an external drive in Disk Management or My Computer?
  • Just tried it on a computer that does not have itunes and still not recognised.

The computer with itunes does not show ipod as an external drive either.

With it connected to a PC, put your ear to it.

    Any whirring/clicking noise?

Have you tried to restore it to factory defaults at all?
  • No noise at all.

How would I restore to factory settings?
  • I have reset all settings and still no joy.

Does an Ipod classic have moving parts then that you can hear?

Asking because I have an Ipod Touch which has no moving parts so I wouldn't hear anything so may not prove anything

You should go to an Ipod Forum and ask there. You might get responses from peole who have experienced the same problem
