hello all,
hope someone can help. i have a corrupted external (not the one i boot off) hard drive which has become corrupted. it has some data i need to recover.
i've googled recovery software for freebie (i'm on jsa and cant afford 40/50 squid for commercial) shareware or similar to recover. best i found was one which took 4 hour scan to rebuild image and table and then offered only 1gb free recovery. the drive is 300gb and need about 150gb of that.
does anyone know of any truly free software that works for this purpose. thanks in advance.

Data recovery experts and IT Personal charge huge amounts of money for Data Recovery for a reason.
Data recovery software is expensive, so is recovery. I wouldnt be going downloading any old random software hoping it helps when it could just as easily destroy your remaining data !!0 -
You could try this:
https://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk is a powerful free data recovery software! It was primarily designed to help recover lost partitions and/or make non-booting disks bootable again when these symptoms are caused by faulty software, certain types of viruses or human error (such as accidentally deleting a Partition Table). Partition table recovery using TestDisk is really easy. You can copy files from deleted FAT, NTFS and ext2/ext3 partitions; rebuild FAT12/FAT16/FAT32/NTFS boot sector.0 -
sounds like just the ticket. will give it a go. regards.0
