Laptop ---router cnnection problem

Hi,
I have a new laptop that I want to connect with my Speedtouch router.
I use AOL and have followed all the guidelines and my laptop tels me that Aol wifi is installed, but when I try to access the internet I get a failure message
I know that the wifi in my laptop is ok , as Ican connect at free wifi hotspots
The laptop is a Dell Latitude D610
Anybody Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I presume you're connecting wirelessly; Check the laptop is actually connected to your router.
Do you need a WAP/WEP security key to connect to the router?
In the taskbar at the right hand corner, there should be a computer symbol with ))) showing. Check when you run your mouse over it it shows your current router and good signal strength. Right click it and look at the status.
Can you acess the home page of your router?
Are the log in and password details correct for the router.
try re booting the router from the diagnostics set up in the router.0
