Does anyone know if you can insure house and contents for a house that is unoccupied - any insurance companies that are willing to insure?

I managed to get buildings insurance only for this.... noone was intersted in quoting for contents as it was unoccupied. I did through the AA.0

From what I can tell (I'm looking for the same thing just now):
Most insurers will cover you but on vastly reduced terms - basically fire, subsidence and similar perils only. Specialist insurers will cover you for standard perils such as theft, vansalism etc but there are not many of them.
Both Towergate and Adrian Flux quoted me for buildings and a small amount of contents. Adrian Flux were very helpful and found me the cheapest quote.
Beware - there are special terms that normally apply to unoccupied cover such as periodic inspections and draining or using the heating system over winter.0 -
After my mum passes away, we were able to continue to insure the unoccuppied house with Zurich. The only change that they made was someone had to check on the house weekly, no change to premiums.0

I am an Insurance Broker and we use a Broker called UGM who specialise in unoccupied property. Based on certain criteria they will also provide wider cover for an increased premium.
They do short term cover aswell for whatever period you require - 3 months, 6 months etc which is helpful if a property is awaiting probate. The only thing with this is that they dont offer a refund of premium so if you sell your house after 6 months but took out a 12 month Policy there is no refund of premium.
If you google UGM they have a website.
Hope that helps

Thanks for the replies. We are looking at different options including clearing the house of contents and possibly storing items and then insuring them in storage. I will look at UGM as a possible insurer in the interim.0

Thanks Warezz22 - looks like the website is for brokers rather than Joe public - will ring them to find out.0

You could try Vasek Insurance. They have three levels of cover from the very basic flea (fire, lightning, explosion, aircraft) to standard full cover.I am an Insurance & Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it.
