Lost DVD drive

My Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop came with DVD player in 2006 but now doesn't play. I suspect the driver has become disconnected, anyone know how to re-establish it, please? Answers in words of one syllable if possible as I'm a wrinkly techno-? :mad: not phobe but ignorant.

have you installed itunes? If so, google itunes upperfilters
doesn't play anything, music cds?!!
