Selling Car

I'm looking to sell my car because I need to downsize as my current car is costing me too much.
I currently drive a Renault Laguna, 1.9 diesel, I'm 23 and pay £60 a month and it costs around £100 a month (sometimes more) for fuel.
I'm hoping to get more than £1000 for it so that money can go towards a smaller, run around car and any extra money can go towards my holiday in September.
Does anyone have any advice on how to go about this? I have Saturday free so aim to start doing something then, I just dont want to waste a whole day and be as productive as possible.
Thanks!

You can put it up on https://www.pistonheads.com for free.
It's worth trying https://www.webuyanycar.com as well, would save you the hassle of selling it yourself.0 -
As long as anyone trying to use webuyanycar realises they probably won't get what they are originally offered and that £49.99-£79.99 fees can be charged.
I would second pistonheads0 -
Steer clear of webuyanycar. Got offered £1500 for my Golf, which I later sold privately for £3400. They will undervalue your car, and add fees, plus bring the price down when they get to see the car saying scratches and dings bring the offer price down further.:A Luke 6:38 :AThe above post is either from personal experience or is my opinion based on the person God has made me and the way I understand things. Please don't be offended if that opinion differs from yours, but feel free to click the 'Thanks' button if it's at all helpful!0

Thanks, I was always a bit wary of selling my car privately because I wouldnt know what the value would be.
Would it be worth looking around and seeing what prices the make of my car is going for with similar spec / mileage etc?
Obviously I would love to get as much money as possibly but I dont want to take the mick because then people wont even be interested.:j *~* 2011 - TRY TO GET CREDIT CARD AS LOW AS POSS BUT STILL HAVE FUN *~* :j0 -
Look on Autotrader for similar cars, and if they're selling for £800-1200 then £1000 is reasonable as long as it's in good nick.:A Luke 6:38 :AThe above post is either from personal experience or is my opinion based on the person God has made me and the way I understand things. You won't get a smaller car much more economical than the one you've got and if you do, the higher price will cancel out any benefit of the extra MPG. Its a completely bonkers way to save money.
Say you do 1000 miles a month at 40MPG. That's 25 gallons at £5/gallon (for the sake of ease) or £125.
You buy a car that is 25% more economical and does 50MPG. That uses 20 gallons at £5/gallon or £100 a month.
BUT the smaller car costs £500 more than you sell yours for because smaller economical cars hold their value. It would take you TWENTY MONTHS to BREAK EVEN. Even if it cost the same to buy the car, by September you'd have only saved a whopping £75 on fuel, half of which would be completely wiped out by the administration cost of changing the insurance.0 -
webuyanycar.com offer ridiculously low prices, far less than Glasses Guide and CAP price guidelines. However they never say anywhere that they pay top prices so caveat emptor0

I can't see you saving any money at all by selling that car. I suggest that for short trips you use a cheap bicycle.0
