SHOP CCTV set up online

I have a 4 camera cctv system with all the required bits in my shop. It is conected to my router via required cable. I can watch the cameras via my laptop when on the wireless network in the shop. How can I get to see the cameras from another place i.e. from my office at home. Easy non technical please.

Basically, you need a good enough router to host the CCTV console as a web server.

What router do you have?

Another alternative is a VPN (which is a form of remote dial in) to the router from your home office so you can connect directly to that network, but thats not easy to set up either and can pose Data Protection/security issues if using CCTV.

You then need to think about Bandwidth, IP Cameras or web based software does a terrible job at compression, which means that you probably will not easily get to see reliable footage from a remote location anyway unless your on a 1:1 ration broadband connection (this means that if your using BT ADSL or something residential, you will struggle to get a decent picture on the footage remotely)

It's not particularly a non-technical answer I'm afraid. You'd need to configure your firewall and port forwarding to allow this to happen and unless you want everyone to see it you'd need to secure it in some way. It's not too hard to do but we'd need some details on how you currently access the cameras from your wireless network. I assume you do it in Internet Explorer or something like that ? I imagine you'd probably need to try and find out which port number it runs on too.
