Sound is in "slow motion"

I have a Acer Aspire, which has developed a weird fault. If I go to, say, You Tube and play a music track/video, the sound is very run down - the same if I play a cd. In other words, females all sound like males! What's happened?

I sorted this prob on a friends PC a few years ago but can't for the life of me remember what I did! (sorry I am ever so old). But I can confirm that it is a software issue and nothing to do with your hardware. I think it was a driver that wanted updating. Go into 'device manager' and try updating the driver for your sound card or update the software with which you play your audio - Windows Media Player or whatever. Good luck.
