If you get a train that is headed for Hammersmith you don't need to change at all - but it does land you up in the far corner of Paddington station. That can be a good thing or a bad one depending on what you want to do when you get to Paddington.

Change at Edgware Road off a Hammersmith train to get to the 'normal' Paddington underground station

Or get the 205 bus - no changes

If you are travelling at the weekend, check the tfl site for engineering work as there are going to be a lot of closures on the line to Hammersmith. In fact I understand it will be closed completely for three weeks in the summer.

holy moley. and theres me trying to book an advanced tkt to westbury which means i am on specific trains!!!!!

no service from st pancras on the hammrsmith line and line completely closed on the circle line.

ok. so if i get an advance ticket from A to B, leaving A at the time specified on the ticket, does the train i get from London on, matter???

With Advance Single tickets, you must travel on the booked train.

oh dear!!! just phoned national rail and they said that the times are specified on every leg. bummer.

quick taxi trip between stations i think. epecially as my time of arrival at westbury is quite paramount. will cost about ten pounds but hey ho. its only money!!!!! if it keeps my timing on track, then its worth it. thanks for all your help, especially to martindow who alerted me to the fact that lines were going to be closed. would ever have known otherwise.xxxxxxxx

loads of way of doing this by tube from Kings Cross StPancras [all one tube station]
    • Northern line to Elepahnt and Castle, Bakerloo to Paddington [long way round]
    • Piccadilly to Piccadilly Circus , Bakerloo to Paddington
    • Victoria to Oxford Circus, Bakerloo to Paddington
And possibly others depending on how you get to StPancras

If you have bought the ticket all in one (not split the journey and bought separate tickets for parts of the journey) I think if you are delayed by a late train they are obliged to let you travel on the next available train. It is wise to get your ticket endorsed by staff at the station and you will lose reserved seats. Staff at Paddington will know all about tube disruption!

Use the journey planner to help, it shows if there are any delays also -
