Build your own . Will be at the correct height for you .
Must be cheaper . When I did mine , it was also much sturdier, I know how it was constructed, if I damage it , easily fixed.
Also its a project that evolves, adding to the area , when required.

My shelves are all old Dexion , would not be without it.

Find someone who is demolishing a house/factory. There will be some good size wood which is much more substantial than bought at most diy stores. Put together with coach bolts so it can be dismantled if you move or want to change configuration. If you are doing any heavy hammering, the vice needs to be supported to ground level otherwise it just bounces. Dont use chipboard as it disintegrates when wet.

i agree. used dexion for the shelving. lasts a lifeltime.
for a bench, make you own from an old door, covered in thick plywood or steel. use very thick timber for the 4/6 legs. ie 4x4.
mount the vice above the middle leg.
i once made a bench for my brother. it costs nowt. we "found" all the materials for free.
    Get some gorm.

Second-hand stainless steel shelving and tables from catering places might be cheap.

    Didn't Dexion go bust??

I would not :D go too cheap

2nd hand doors would work , but the bench is going to last as long as you are in that house , spend a 'little' money.
A cheaper replaceable top is a nice idea.
Agree on the sturdy legs. Don't know about the vice requirements, use mostly a collection of clamps .

As most of my toys 'plug' in , sort out the electrics first. That includes any extra lights.

I built the work bench in my work shop using concrete blocks for the legs and 4"x2" for the top, then covered with hardboard. Obviously, this is only feasible if you have a concrete floor. It is solid as a rock. In my garage, I built the work bench out of CLS studding material and used sub-standard kitchen worktops from Wickes for the top. It all seems to be satisfactory after many years use. Neither bench cost very much.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

From memory my dad's current benches are made from 4x4" wood for the frames, with mortice and tenon joints with a coach bolt, then he used cheap Ikea worktops screwed onto the frame for the (replaceable) top, and exterior ply for the side panels and shelves.
He also put adjustable feet under each upright so he could level it as needed.
I need to do some routing to make a suitable fixing on the front for sliding perspex "doors" (when I've got time I need to run some 1" or 1.5" wood through the routing table to allow for 2 or 3 sheets of sliding perspex), as at the moment it's open at the front which allows all the sawdust onto the shelves under it.

I’ve just done mine, 2 x 2 treated decking something or other round the walls with 18mm ply shelves sitting on it and vertical bits of the same 2 x 2 with ply sized slots to act as legs and support the bits that aren’t near a wall.

No where near solid enough for a vice to be attached but OH only wants it for storage.

Four sheets of ply & 20m of 2 x 2 was just over £100, throw in a days labour, some screws and glue and that’s a happy OH and a big pile of brownie points tucked away in my back pocket
