Speak to the police again about the driving test for which you paid. That is fraud, which is a criminal matter, although the other issues you raise are a civil matter.

It would be easy for you to sue the instructor for the money that you paid in advance for lessons, etc. However, all that this would achieve would be to secure a county court judgement against him, and by the sound of things he is out of money anyway.
  • Have you tried googling it?

    silly question? :o

But what do you mean by this, apart from the obvious,or is it that obvious?
  • He said in a text he would come round last night, never turned up but at 6am this morning my Dad found an envelope at front door from him with a cheque for some of the money. I had repeatedly asked him via text if we could meet to discuss the calculations face to face but he wouldn't.

I finally got through to booking service explained all the cut lessons etc and they are going to refund the difference. In a note with the cheque he said he has recalculated my rate at £17 per hour instead of £16 because I only completed 15 of the 20 hours. However the hours I didn't complete were 2 hours when he faled to turn up and 2.5 hours because of a breakdown so not as if I hadn't tried to have a lesson in these times!

DSA are giving written confirmation that the test he claimed he booked me was never booked and complaining to the ADI too with all copies of texts, cancelled/cut/forgotten lessons. I am not bothered about compensation so much as just getting back at least what I am owed. He's a horrible character, extremely unprofessional and I don't want anything mor eo do with him.

The booking service said they have never had any complaints about him, but then I would have never complained and didn't complain about all the cut lessons as I just wanted to get through my test as quick as possible and hasslefree. I realise I should have complained as soon as he started cutting lessons instead of putting up with it.....learnt my lesson!

Thanks for all the help and suggestions - I'll let you know if anything further develops.

Glad its on its way to being sorted for you. When I was learning to drive we had a similar experience - we paid a block installment at the beginning for 10 hours, I only got about 4 and then the guy disappeared! He had cashed the cheque earlier on into his personal account. Luckily the driving school that he was with honoured the rest of the hours that I was due - then I moved to BSM and they were much better.

  • Just in case anyone else has the misfortune of paying for lessons with this man - beware of a driving instructor called John Robson, of Wardley, Gateshead, Tyne & Wear. Drives a Black corsa, no top sign or name on car, just L-plates. If you do take lessons, book your own test - don't given him money or allow him to do it, make a note of all lessons arranged, rescheduled, shortened/late/not turned up for.
  • As far as finding this guy, someone is having a go at a search site for people on the Vent boards. I thought I'd try putting your man in the search. Only one came up for the name. It might not be him but it does give an address and a landline number.

It may not be appropriate to post his full details here so I suggest going to https://www.b4usearch.com and putting in his name and town. Or I can pm it to you
