Hi, I really hope someone can help me as so far I cant find the answer on the internet. I have some dvds that I cannot get sound on my pc (others work ok). I have tried various players and used gspot to see what codec is used. Gspot says the audio codec is AC3 and that I have it installed, however it still doesnt work! I really dont know what do try next, the dvds are of my children and Im desperate to see them. Any ideas ?? Many thanks Nicky

GSpot will tell you what other codecs are installed. If you have lots, it is possible that there are conflicts between one of them and your ac3 codec. Have a look at this first.0

Try using VLC media player. It is free and plays just about anything.
I have been using it for ages and have had no problems.0 -
thank you for your reply, I have already tried vlc but still no sound. Not sure how I know if there is a conflict with the codec, could it be anything to do with my speaker set up?
thanks

run GSpot again, if it shows you having more than 1 audio codec to play AC3 audio, and/or a ton of mp3 codecs, you'll have to set about deleting some.
In the very worse case, you will be able to rip the DVD, demux the audio, convert it to another format like mp3 then put the video into a format that will allow you to mux the mp3 audio back in and then burn a new DVD. Which is a real pain.
But, first things first - check how many audio codecs you've got installed.
Also, have you tried the errant DVDs in another computer or a DVD player??0 -
thanks I have cleaned up the codecs suggested by gspot and now have audio in vlc (changed the audio device to mono) and working fine in wmp. Now I just have to find a program to edit the damn things as got no picture with wmm!0
