I lent a lap-top to a friend and he password protected it and then died. His widow has given the lap-top back but no-one knows the password. I would like to give the lap-top to another friend but it's useless at the moment. Any help would be appreciated

Do you mean he set up a password on a Windows user account? If so there are ways and means to remove the password, as I have done this for friends who have forgotten theirs. Which operating system is on the laptop?0

It's Windows 98 and I use a Mac so don't really understand what I'm trying to do0

OK I haven't done it on 98 before, only XP onwards, but a quick google found a couple of sites saying something along these lines... (I copied and pasted this)
"Windows 3, 95, 98 and ME do not enforce the password. As such we just tap escape to get in. After that we can delete the .PWL files in C:\Windows, reboot and then enter your new password for that user."
Give it a go and see if it works.0 -
