computers, like us, slow down as they get older
There are a number of things that you can do to help improve this though.
Chances are you have a lot of files clogging up the system that are not needed - temporary files, cookies, cached files and other stuff that can be safely removed. It's a bit like clearing through a pile of papers in a filing cabinet to clear some more space and getting rid of things.
You may find while clearing that filing cabinet that your bank statements aren't all in the same place - in computer terms that's what "defragmenting" fixes. If files are fragmented it can slow down performance as the computer takes longer to find it all - and the hard drive has to work harder.
There's a great tool at ccleaner.com that will clear out the extra stuff, and a defragmenter is included with windows, or see defraggler.com
If it's an older machine then some extra memory may help. See crucial.com for advice on what memory you need.
Hope it helps

What OS?
How much RAM do you have instaled.
More info needed please. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Your connectivity problems might also mean you have malware. Download the free version from www.malwarebytes.com and run a full scan. This and (as previously posted) ccleaner from www.piriform.com should see you right. They also do a product called defraggler which is better than Windows own defragmentation device. You might also like to check your hard drive for errors using chkdsk http://vlaurie.com/computers2/Articles/chkdsk.htmMicrosoft Certified IT Professional x 3 (Vista - Enterprise and Consumer, Server 2008)
