U.K. Consumer Confidence Slumped in May by Most Since July 2008

U.K. consumer confidence dropped in May by the most since July 2008 as Britons became more pessimistic about the economy, Nationwide Building Society said. The index of sentiment slumped 10 points from April to 65, erasing most of the gains in confidence seen in the previous 10 months

Quite an achievement by the coalition in just a few weeks .....

Odd, that. Suspecting that substantial increases in VAT were on the cards, I'm afraid my thinking went a different way altogether.

Perhaps next month, I'll have a crisis of confidence.:)

It's a good job the coalition lowered it's forecasts for growth 'cos damaging business and consumer confidence in this way is gonna hurt....

    OP,

Shouldn't you be helping with the "Wilderness Years", since these party political broadcasts are falling on deaf years?
In case you hadn't already worked it out - the entire global financial system is predicated on the assumption that you're an idiot:cool:

One of the first sign of internet forum psychosis is when you start seeing sockpuppets where there is absolutely no basis for it. Am I chucky too? Is StevieJ? Maybe we are all chucky, and you are talking to yourself?

May be people are saving for tax rises of all sorts rather than spending to get in before vat increases?

I think its understandable consumer confidence is low. Unlike the outgoing government the new government have an opportunity, and indeed even more than one motive, in taking another look at the current situation and painting it bleak in order to both show improvement over their time in office later and to prepare us or ''austerity''. Instead o the looking forward thats been encouraged for some time, the issue of blame has been present again, and a lot people feel..frustrated..caught on a wheel they cannot get off but that is not of their making.

It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.
