New Sky Customer-Tips Please

I want to sign up to Sky Digital and want to have the full package for I think £42 a month, after reading this http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=115125&highlight=sky+digital I know that there are many offers open to exisiting customers, so my question is should I ring them up and see what they can offer me as there's not much on offer over the net.

Any help would be appreciated

If you have Amex credit card, the best offer is for sky+ with first two month free, free installation and £49 pounds for the sky box. offer ends the end of this month

If you don't want sky+ or don't have amex card, then go to the following link
    https://survey.sky.com/ordersky/cdwow/

Don't forget to go through quidco for £50 pounds cashback. You can order online first then call the CS line and quote the above offers.

    Good luck

hi, i am new to UK and was bit confused to read the skytv website, which states that you need a fixed telephone line to receive sky tv and the call charges are 8 penceper minute ???

General: Offers exclude Sky TV Month by Month customers. Your free Sky box/Sky+ box must be connected to a fixed telephone line for 12 months. You must get any consents required (e.g. landlord's). Minimum Sky digital/Sky+ subscriptions 12 months. You must be 18 years or over. Prices, channels/programmes subject to change. Further terms apply. Information only applies to residential customers in UK, Channel Islands and Isle of Man. Information correct June 2006.

Calls cost up to 8 pence per minute for BT customers. Calls from other providers may vary.

This does not make sense to me.. what are these call charges for and why do you need a telephone line to receive skytv. i thought this was via cable/ satellite..If you need a separate fixed line, can you make calls when you receive sky.. appreciate someone can clarify. I calledskytv and they told me they are not sure and would transfer to some other department

    Hey Infra,

Sky TV has an interactive section where you can order movies, play games, shop or even order a pizza. All these require a phoneline to connect to. Sky insist you have a line to your box so you can use these services if you do so wish. You connect up via the phoneline and it costs a nominal charge but always asks you first so its nothing to worry about.

ps The phone line becomes engaged when using a sky service but your only usually on for a minute or so. You dont need a separate phoneline because sky provide a splitter so you can connect the box to your existing line

Apologise for my dumbness.. from the place I have come the cable tv worked differently.

I also wanted to understand the cdwow offer, the website states that you have to stay with the package for 5 months, however the contract is for 12 months. does that mean that if i subscribe for 6 mix and premium channel intially i can change the same to only 4 mix (without premium channel ) after5months and that needs to be valid for the remainign period

When i phoned up sky a couple of months back, they told me i can pay a one of fee of £35 pounds. If i didn't want to be connected to a phone line, and information would go via the dish instead!

do you think 35 pound is worth it, and thecost of connecting to landline will behigher than this.. as someone posted saying that the cost is very minimal. when is the telephone call charged when we use the interactive service
only or every time you press the remote to change channels etc
additionally does anyone have a freephone number for sky

The £35 charge isnt worth it because you dont have to connect to the interactive services if you wish not to. Sky only have it as a condition to satisfy the numerous companies that are advertising on their interactive services......you never actually have to use them. After the 12months you are under no obligation to have the phoneline connected to your sky box....mine has not been plugged in for a long time.

Skys contract for new customers is 12 months.
The CD WOW offer is just offering 5 months of this at half price (regardless of the package type).
I guess after 5 months you could reduce the package you had previously unless sky insist on you keeping the same package for 12 months. Youd have to read the terms and conditions on their website.
