had 20week scan today

Hello everyone well we had our 20week scan today all is well with bubs but we didnt get a pic as the computer was down. Im sooooooooo gutted its unreal we have been looking forward to this for the last 8weeks as our dating scan pic wasnt very clear as baby was moving around so much.

saw doc afterwards who was useless. she didnt even know how to use the round edd calculator things they have. At my dating scan my dates were put back by 2weeks making my EDD 29th Oct instead of 15th. When I got a quick glance at the hand written notes today it said some of measurements were saying I was 21wks 3days when im 20weeks at 4days today. I asked doc whether they were still going by dating scan dates etc and she said yes and kept saying your 20weeks and 5days today I said no 4days but she wouldnt listen got booked in for my glucose test though for 23rd July so at least we got some progress there.

We are now considering 4d scan but we dont want to know sex of baby and dont want to pay £100 just to see top half of baby

We paid £100 to just see the top half of our bumpette. Ok we went a little lower too just to check but it really was worth the £100. Just watching her sucking her thumb, opening and closing her mouth, blinking, sticking her tongue out. Really was amazing.

I'm sorry you're disappointed but very glad to hear that everything is ok.
Hope you don't mind my saying this, but the 20-week scan is intended to check for any potential problems - it isn't meant as a photo opportunity!
I can understand you've looked forward to seeing your baby, but it isn't that much of a disaster, surely? In approximately 20 more weeks, you'll be meeting your baby and that's going to be fantastic.

I agree with this but cann also sympathise as you must be disappointed.

Personally I'd not bother with a 3D scan, especially as you don;t want to know the sex - it's a lot of money to spend for a picture you won;t even care about after baby is born.

As for dates, they are only accurate to plus or minus seven days anyway so don;t sweat it - babies are due anywhere between 37 and 42 weeks so 'due dates' mean nothing anyway.

I've had a 4D scan for two of my pregnancies and they are amazing watching them wiggle about and suck their feet babs even smiled at us on the last one. The sonographers are very good at showing you everything without showing the bits they will ask before you go in if you want to know. They are brilliant if you have the spare money the photos i have give us a lovely look at what she will look like and i no longer feel like im having an alien which is all my 2d pics seemed to look like :-)

I agree with telling yourself if everything is healthy then just wait and see - it's like finding Christmas presents when you were a kid - would you look and spoil the surprise on the day?

As for dating, a day or two does not make a difference, only 4% of babies arrive on their due date.;)

In my experience the 12-week pic is better than the 20-week pic anyway, because you can see the whole baby. I would try to forget about your disappointment and get on with looking forward to meeting your actual baby.

I've had LOTS of NHS scans as I have a naughty bean and they still haven't been able to check everything. They won't do anymore.

We wanted to know flavour and have a lovely scan pic but don't. We have decided NOT to pay for a private scan.

What's meant to be is meant to be and we'd much rather spend the £100 on something else:)

if they took the still pics.. which they do to put in your file.. just ring up and ask for one or 3! The same happened to me with one of mine and they just posted half a dozen pics out.

Glad all is well and like the others say don't sweat it about the pic, knowing bubs is healthy is great and the rest is a fab surprise:)

As for the useless doc...can you not phone your midwife for reassurance??? and to ask about the dates??

The measurements.....again don't worry:), the 1st scan at 12weeks is more accurate for dating as babies after this point have different rates of growth so will be more accurate....at our 20week scan I was 19+5 but baby was measuring around 21+4 for most measurements:eek:, nobody was bothered and baby is about average on most of the graph/chart things that are in my pg book so I could just be having a huge baby:p

dont worry bout the growth measurements. Kian always measured bout 6 or 7 days more than i was PG. and on the estimates i should have had an 8lb baby but he was 6lb 15. The scan pictures at 12 weeks are much better as you can see all the baby too.
they will never mention the measurements unless they show that baby is bigger or smaller than they expect.

as your due date can never be 100% as others have mentioned, this is why you will have a few different dates.

we never had a 3d or 4d scan as we prefered to spend the money on something baby would enjoy
