Thanks for the timescales - the nurst said usually a week or two..
I feel silly for worrying so much now9/70lbs to lose0 -
I think it's natural to worry.
The first one I had done, I was so tense that the nurse inserted the speculum and I promptly fired it right back out again :rotfl:
Then the second time I'd just changed Pills and it came back with some abnormalities. I saw a doctor for a biopsy and he said that hormonal changes can cause that, he then had a look and said that was probably it, took a sample and it all came back fine. I had to get another every twelve months after that but after that one they were all clear and I've gone back onto the regular time between them.
The only thing I've ever worried about is bedside manner, because some of the nurses can be shockingly rude. One told me I probably had an infection because I bled afterwards and when I pointed out that I was monogamous she retorted, YOU might be, but can you be sure about HIM? As it happened, I was entirely sure about him and sure enough the test came back negative for all nasties. Some people have more delicate cervixes than others and are more likely to bleed, while it can be a sign of something sinister it doesn't have to be one.Organised Birthdays and Christmas: Spend So Far: £193.75; Saved from RRP £963.76

They don't do one them together as standard. Only if they notice something a little out of the ordinary, just to be safe.
You can go to a free, anonymous clinic for a full STD check. I did once, after finding out my ex had been sleeping around behind my back. Thankfully, all came back clear. But I remember they thought I may have Chlamydia as I bled a little when they took a swab. Same thing always happens at my smear tests, but they always come back clear. Just a sensitive cervix also I guess.
It's absolutely fine getting tested though, and you'll feel great afterwards. You shouldn't feel embarassed. You'll be doing the sensible thing in looking after your sexual health.February wins: Theatre tickets0 -
Thanks for that
I don't think I have anything as such, but I guess I'd like to just make sure really. Always nice to know lol
I'll have a look for a clinic!9/70lbs to lose0 -
I sometimes asked for one when I had a smear because I think it's courteous to be tested if you change partners and there was never any problem about it.Organised Birthdays and Christmas: Spend So Far: £193.75; Saved from RRP £963.76

As others have said, try not to worry.
I'm in my 40's and have had cervical smears for years and not one of them has come out "normal" first time. I've usually had to have a second one which has come back as normal. Usually the abnormal ones have been due to infection/taking the pill/stress, hormones etc.
I have smears every 3 years and the doctors know my history...I'm sure if they had concerns they'd be taking it further...Debt 30k in 2008.:o Cleared all my debt in 2013 and loving being debt free

That's something I have asked the nurse for in a separate appointment, as it could interfere with a smear test sample. I've usually said I've had a bit of thrush and would like to be sure it's all gone - I've never been directed to the 'clinic' for it - and 'whilst you're there, could you do a full set of swabs, just to be doubly certain'?
No problem doing that yet, and I'm sure that they appreciate not everyone is prepared to go to Med GU.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
I'm 22 and hardly any of my friends the same age have had one done, many have been told they are too young.
Many of my friends have been turned down for one on the basis that they are gay, which is absolutely disgusting considering there is a law stating you cannot discriminate based on the person's sexual orientation but ho hum it still goes on in this day and age.Professional Photographer with a love of bargain hunting..
