Order double-glazing before VAT is whacked up?

Options
Bit of dilemma as the house needs D/G doing.

What are peeps thoughts about ordering now, before VAT is whacked up to 20%+ in next weeks Budget?

Or is everyone doing that, and the fitters have no incentive to offer a price as they have loads of work on?

Maybe better to wait until later in the summer when work is tailing off, then negotiate a keener price that offsets the VAT...

Or maybe doing worthy 'green' improvement to the house will escape VAT?

Only if you are planning on paying for it before it is installed. The VAT rate will be that applying at the date of invoice.
Most DG companies won't need much persuading to reduce their quote by 2.5% anyway-if you can't get 25% off at least then you are not trying very hard.

Yes I expect VAT to be raised, this week, and we already know that C rated will be required from October 1st (this is common now but everyone needs to from oct) and may be slightly higher prices.

However I understand the new govnmt are looking at a GReen Deal, dont know any details, but helping those installing green energy efficient (A rated I guess) somehow, so if you haven't placed the order yet I'd wait till thursday!

Buying quality goods which last, should be an investment that saves money. :T
Buying cheap products which fail, wastes money and costs twice as much in the long run.

Well 20% VAT is to go on products invoiced after Jan 4th, as I suggested.

Whats more the industry has to raise (by law) the efficiencies of the products it allows to be sold, starting in October, so thats a double whammy!

There wasn't a huge rush after the vat changed from 15 back to 17.5 but I fancy this year there will be a surge in demand so IF you were thinking of changing, probably worth getting a good deal now, over the summer months with fitting before Xmas
