Hi all
My friend owns a small B&B which has two landlines.
Landline 1: Contract ends December 2010
Talktalk landline only
Landline 2: Contract ends June 2010
Opal (Talktalk) landline and broadband
She says she only needs one landline and would like to keep the telephone number of landline 1. However she wants to terminate landline 2 asap and also leave talktalk/opal altogether, as she is unhappy with their customer service. Any ideas what the best route is? It is a bit of pain figuring it all out as landline 1 contract ends December.
I was thinking perhaps she could move landline 2 to BT, get broadband with o2 almost immediately. In December, she could update landline 2 with landline 1's number? Is that possible?
It feels a bit like a puzzle to me

I'd keep line 1 for the following reasons:
1. If it's Talk Talk LLU on both lines then migrating isn't going to be as straightforward as it might be;
2. As it's a business I guess the loss of the number - which has happened to people - would be so catastrophic it's not worth taking risks.
The other complication - if it's Talk Talk LLU then you can't have ADSL from anyone else on line 1, so you can't have ADSL added to line 1 in readiness. You will have to migrate that line first and have the number ported. Then get ASDL put on it.
Then cancel line 2.
For the sake of perhaps £50 keeping it running until December I'd do that...
On a final note, I'd suggest it is highly unlikely that customer service will be improved by migrating to BT.0 -
I'd personally keep line 1, canel the talktalk contract (and pay out what ever the fee is on line 1). Move back to BT and choose a broadband supplier
Oh - and completely cancel the 2nd line and broadband.0
