  • remember if its 070xx or 076xx, yo' gonna pay!

Ummm 076 numbers are what all Isle of Man mobile numbers start with, so don't always assume it is a scam.
  • I had a girl called Rashida Adams try and get me to call her on this number: 0044 7031879990

Thanks to everyone from this site reporting this otherwise I might have fell for it.
  • 07035999321 and +2347031640409 (this one is in Nigeria)

I looked them both up after getting calls from them...scam!
I call Nigeria a lot and mobile numbers there start with 070 and 080, hence if you receive a cal from +23470 and +23480, but you dont know any one in Nigeria, its probably a scam or the caller dialled your number by mistake.
Though the vision may not be the true future of man but it can't be completely beyond his control.

0703 numbers cost 10.9p conection plus 47½p/minute to call from a BT residential landline.

Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

However, thanks to the ineffectual regulator, 070 numbers can cost up to 50p per minute to call from a BT landline (probably more from other landline providers) and the called party takes a cut of that.
End-user revenue sharing was banned on 070 in 2009. If there's a scam still going on now in 2013 then it's at the network level and involving the providers themselves (noted the original post is from 2006).

remember if its 070xx or 076xx, yo' gonna pay!
07624 is the prefix for ordinary mobile phones in the Isle of Man. Originally allocated for paging services, the rest of the 076 range is a minefield.

Isle of Man uses only 07624. Beware of the rest of the 076 range.
Businesses using 084, 087 or 09 numbers will soon need to display details of the inbuilt Service Charge under Ofcom's "unbundled tariffs" plans.

Businesses using 084, 087 or 09 numbers for customer service, complaints, renewals, etc, will need to swap to an 01, 02, 03 or 080 number before the Consumer Rights Directive comes into effect June 2014.
