DV video from camcorder (MiniDV)

Got Firewire port on my PC (and cable).

Whats best software to use to import my recordings into, say AVI format?

Dont want anything clever, just something simple to use, then I can use Nero to create DVDs.

Windows movie maker has come with all versions of Windows from XP onwards, although with XP and Vista you need a 3rd party DVD burner.

Microsoft says you can http://support.microsoft.com/kb/272363 but many have problems.

You can convert avi with Any Video Converter http://www.any-video-converter.com/products/for_video_free/ free.

Personally I think WMM is crapolla and I use Sony Vegas Movie Studio.
