When someone else gives you away -what are they called ?

Hi
My parents are dead so I have asked my friend to give me away.
However everything refers to the " father of the bride " and I dont know if there is another title I could use -what else could I call her.
It seems such a mouthful trying to explain to people plus with regards to gifts I cant find any personalised ones for her. I have got the bridesmaids " bridesmaid t-shirts " but would love to getsomething to her.
A t-shirt with " my friend who is giving me away " just doesnt seem right !
Help appreciated x

I know where you're coming from....my dad died years ago. My uncle gave me away first time, and this time it will be my son so at least they have 'titles'. "Special Friend" just seems a bit twee but must admit I'm at a loss for what else you could use...sorry!

A couple of weeks ago I went to a wedding where the brides father had passed away & her brother walked her down the aisle.
On the order of service he was referred to as a "Bridesman"

    The giver-awayer

    The brides escort

How about 'I'm the giver' on the t-shirt? :o I'm sorry I couldn't resist that one

Can't help, but I know where you're coming from. In my case it's easier as my big brother is giving me away so he's the 'brother of the bride'. I do like Lady E's 'guardian angel' suggestion though. Good luck.

If it were me I'd think about what makes her such a valued friend and why you want her to walk you down the aisle (as opposed to your bridesmaids for example) and try and think up a suitable title based on that. Also think about how serious you want the role to be. Is it just for a bit of company as you walk into a room full of people, or is it that she has a long history that links to your family and you want her to represent that?

If she's there as a fun friend - a lighthearted title like "Bride's Bodyguard" might work, but if you'd like it to be more formal perhaps "Bride's Escort/Chaperon/Companion"?

As for gifts, it doesn't have to have her title written on it does it? I'm sure she'd appreciate a lovely piece of jewellry for her to wear on the day that she could treasure afterwards.

    Thanks for the suggestions.
Im getting her a lovely bracelt but was wanting to get her some fun things too.
I have known her since we were at school and she is one off the few people who knew my mum.

I kind of like the idea of brides escort or maybe best person. Although she is very girly so would prob like something that echos that lol.
Although the way my OH family have been acting brides bodyguard might be fun for the night before lol .
