EDF energy meter trouble
EDF has been estimating my bills for 6 to 9 months. This last time, they requested I read my own meter, as they feel it has not been movingforward and may have developed a fault. Having taken meter readings 5 days apart, I have noticed the readings have not changed.
My question is: EDF will try and lumber me with loads of units unpaid, although un-metered, what could be my defence?

You have no defence. Or are you claiming you have not used any power?0

don't panic! this happened to a friend of mine a few months ago and they just worked out her average useage and then discussed it with her to see if she was in agreement with the figure they had arrived at. as it happens she wasn't in agreement with them as her average consumption had shrank due to them all out working whereas previously 2 of them in the house were unemployed. So they agreed a figure and that's what they billed her. But I wouldn't panic.
hope this helps.0 -
They'll give ya a bill based upon an estimate. They won't lumber you with a horrendous bill and probably be a bit better off.0

Hi Stefano - Understand your concern, EDF are not the worst provider when it comes to sheer arrogance when dealing with Billing issues, but no provider is squeaky clean.
In the event of a failed meter, it's all about billing on estimated consumption - which is all very well if you have a history with EDF prior to the meter failure, as there is a histrorcal record of your seasonal use to base the esimate on, and a good indication of just when the meter failed
It gets more complex if there is no history - the 'estimate' is then anybody's guess. To be fair EDF ought to be paid something on account for power consumed up to the day the faulty meter is replaced, but don't accept the estimated demand at face value - Pay them what you deem to be fair, which might just be what they are asking for, but on the strict understanding that this figure will be adjusted up or down on the basis of the next years bills based on meter readings taken by them or yourself0
