Why are BA's taxes more expensive than easyjet's total price

When we fly BA we collect BA Miles and when we shop, we collect airmiles. Can anyone tell me why it is that if we then cash these in for "free" BA flights within europe, the taxes are greater than the equivalent total price for the same route with easyjet?

For example, looking at a return flight in November from Gatwick to Toulouse for 4 adults, the BA flight is "free" by using airmiles, but the taxes are £188. The same route, with similar flight times using easyjet is £158.72 of which only £58 are taxes.

I can understand why the flights are cheaper because of the budget airline model, but why the taxes?

BA are charging more than Taxes

'plus taxes, fees, charges and surcharges* per person Total
    1 Adult £ 20.00 £ 47.00 £ 67.00
    * The price of your ticket includes a security, insurance and fuel surcharge per flight levied by the carrier.'

easyJet sometimes don't always separate all Taxes, fees and charges, some are in the fare.

This is one of the reasons I gave up collecting BMI miles, the flights were difficult to find on the dates that you want and as you have found there is usually a better deal to be had elsewhere

Some of these miles can be used in the USA on partner airlines where the taxes are lower.
