P+P for DVD

Why oh why are we only allowed to charge £1 to post a DVD and yet the cheapest you can send it for is approx. £1.17???
I have just sold 7 DVD's, charged £1 for each and have ended up paying £1.72 for each of them!!! After all the charges and everything I am now £1.61 worse off than before I sold them:( So much for trying to raise a couple of quid

Incorporate the extra postage charge into your starting price?0

You used to be able to send a normal single DVD in a jiffy as a large letter for 72p or something, I know postage prices have gone up but I would think that you still can for under a pound.
Assuming that yours were larger, you should have weighed them before, worked out the postage cost, and added any extra onto your start price to make sure you didn't make a loss. I know that's not much help now but lesson learned I guess. I've just given a load of brand new DVDs to charity, they were decent films but looking at completed items they only sold for 99p if at all and it just wasn't worth the effort. There's far too much competition from Play, Amazon etc.:www: :: MFi3 ::

I remember when you could send them for about 72p and thought you still could which is why I didn't weigh them etc.
They were normal DVDs wrapped in a single layer of bubblewrap and brown paper and they cost £1.72 each.Mummy to Oliver - 28/10/09

That'll be your post office trying to make more money out of you, I have a couple round me that won't put anything through as a large letter.0

I asked this question a while ago and I think someone said that its something to do with HMV and similar sites doing free p+p. I have sent a few dvd in the past and it cost 80 something pence, the got weighed at the post office and I just wrapped them in brown paper and put a little bubblewrap inside the dvd case to stop it rattling.0

Hmm, the last DVDs I sent (last week) cost me 81p as a second class large letter.
I wonder if the bubble wrap was a bit too thick at the edges so it had to go as a pocket which would be right, £1.72 is a 1st class packet over 100g. I struggle with my slim books sometimes, I need enough packing to keep them safe but if i overpad at the ends (where you turn the bubble wrap over) it can often make a lot of difference.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. What would be the best way to pack them? I like using the bubblewrap so they actually make it to the buyer in one piece but if the bubblewrap is affecting the price then obviously I would like to alter the way I pack them.Mummy to Oliver - 28/10/09

You can get foam sheeting, typically 2mm, never sent DVDs with it but works fine with books.0

I use a good quality jiffy bag, after all that is what Play and companies like that use to send DVDs.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
