If I had a mass of hair to get rid of I would give it to the cancer charity as it would be a very good gesture to help those who want a wig to help them feel better about themselves. :T

Whoa, I'm double surprised. Surprised I knew the answer to this, :eek: and even more surprised to see it on MSE :eek: in the gardening space.

It doesn't know - it just falls out because hair is controlled by some chemical I think it is and a new one grows. Eyelashes and eyebrows have short little lives we just don't notice them fall out much.
