    I've never seen a thornless blackberry planted that was worth it, although I'm sure they exist, pick them from the wild and plant a loganberry instead if you want something like that.

    I would second this.. there are so many wild blackberries for the picking, I've planted stuff that you can't readily get from the wild. I do have a wild one growing at the back of the kennel, that we keep cutting back (they are prolific), but we're only not killing it off so we get the occasional blackberry or the dogs do (one is very good at picking the low down ones!)..

    I too love making jams, but find it much easier and more fruitful to get them from the wild.. but then I am lucky, they are everywhere here :)
