getting around London

I am travelling to London and will arrive on A sunday morning. I will be there for 2 days and wondered what is the cheapest way to get around - will be spending one day at wimbledon and am staying in the Bayswater area - is oyster card the best bet - or is the bus the best way to get around
thanks

You can use the Oyster card on buses, and you'll pay a lot less too. From memory, it'll cost £1 on the bus using an oyster card or £2 using cash.

    Refer to the tfl website.

But basically the Oyster card is your best bet, but you'll have to pay a £3 returnable deposit.

If you're thinking of using the tube, check the TFL site before you go as there are often line closures at weekends for engineering works.

By far the easiest way around London, rather than waste your time getting an oyster card is to buy a travel card, Bayswater is in Zone 1 or 2 and Wimbledon is in 3 (if memory serves me correct), all you would need to is buy a zone 1,2 and 3 travel card and you can use the tube or buses as often as you want on that day. Rather than your £1 per journey or whatever it costs.

If you happen to be going to watch the tennis then the walk from tube station to entrance is long, so hop on a bus. You will get the district line down from bayswater to wimbledon.
I all have learnt is from others on many sites.

But don't you have to buy a travelcard from a tube stop or can you buy one on a bus?

It depends how many journeys you are planning to make. If you make one return journey each day then Oyster is the best. If you make a few then Oyster is still probably the best as fares are capped at the travelcard level, i.e. you will not pay more than a travelcard costs anyway.

    Things to bear in mind:

Oyster costs £3 (refundable) and then top ups
Sunday tubes can be up the shoot
Travel cards are zone specific, i.e. zones 1-2 or zones 1-4 etc. Oyster covers everything so long as you have funds on it.
Buses are cheaper, but still better to get Oyster than travelcard.

    Hire a Boris Bike.

Or put £10 on an oyster card, think it's maxs at £4.80 per day.

Not ON a bus - no. But several thousand newsagents and similar around London sell them. It's not just tube stations.
