Looking for some advice for my mum.
She currently owns her own home, both her and my step dad are disabled. She has unsecured debts of around £40000 and is struggling to pay everything at the moment. Her mortgage payment is £600 per month.
They both receive Incapacity and DLA benefits. She has been looking into selling her house and paying off her debts.
What I am wondering is does anyone know if she would be entitled to a house from the council on medical grounds? Basically sooner or later her house will be repossessed as she is struggling to pay everything and some creditors are threatening with getting a notice for her house.
I dont want her selling to find herself homeless.
Any advice would be great.
Also sorry if this is in the wrong thread.

your best bet is to phone the local social services department and ask them about it
It might have to come to the point that the house is in fact reposessed before they will nbe classed as homeless, do check with your local team. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
there are firms who can buy your house off you, and sometimes rent it back to them - providing there is still some equity in the property.0

Hi there, I am in a similar situation. I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005 and have not been able to work since. I receive Incapacity Benefit and Tax Credit. As I have a mortgage on my property and have incurred debts I have no option but to sell. If you are considering contacting companies that will buy your property and you can stay on and pay them rent -.
I would be very wary as they can increase your rent which would be more than your Mum is paying now.
I have found the CCCS very helpful.
Wishing you all luckCarrie Cordery0 -
if either of you want to contact me privately i can recommend a thoroughly ethical company who buys property very fast.
Any landlord can increase the rent, but a sensible landlord will make only modest increases if he has a long-term tenant who looks after his property.0 -
I own a company who provides a fast sale/rent back service.
However, the word ethical has reared its head. I feel it would be totally unethical to buy either house for 70-80% of open market value, in these circumstances.
In xlesleyann's mum's situation, the 40K unsecured debts can be negotiated down if she is struggling with payments (usually to 30 pence in the pound)
I am licensed to provide debt counselling, so feel free to pm me.
Carole mentioned CCCS and this is worth looking into.
If the situation cannot be sorted, then it is better to go for a company like mine. At least you don't have a repossession black mark and still get to live in your own home.
Rents should reflect current market rents and no more.
Best of luck
