BT Openreach - I could cry, please help!

My house is situated on a corner. I have one telegraph pole at the rear side of my house which serves my property and several others from the back including my neighbours.
Last year my neighbour had builders in pointing the house and they pulled her wire down. This year she asked BT to put it back up but instead of re-attaching it at the back they have put another pole up at the front of MY property right against my garden wall and in the middle of my lounge window view.
The wire wraps around my house from the front of next door to the pole then along the side of my house to the original pole. I am surrounded by poles and wires!

I sent a letter of complaint to the address on the pole to object. They replied saying it is health and safety that they cannot now access her rear garden so they used the front. Case CLOSED!! I can take this to county court but how much is this going to cost me?
Who else can I complain to? I am so upset it makes me cry. Even the wire across the front is so close that my window cleaner is going to struggle not to decapitate himself to clean the window!

Please please can somebody help???

  • This issue pertains to "wayleave agreements". I'm no expert on this, perhaps someone more expert can pop along and advise.

    I did come across this:

Could be two issues here, if BT have sited a pole in the public footpath (not on your property) then although they should try to site it sympathetically, there could be reasons (like existing services in the footpath) that dicates the position of this new pole, and if where it is blocks the view out of your window there isnt a lot you can do about it if BT have sited it legally and issued the correct notices etc..
The route the overhead wire that serves your neighbour also doesnt need your permission to 'fly' over or near your property, but obviously may not be attatched to your property..but its not allowed to be so close as to stop you opening windows etc..its a grey area as a housholder may say 1 metre is to close, Openreach as its their lineplant may say its ok as doesnt interfere with windows opening etc...you could try writing again ( to Openreach ) and asking for a survey officer or planner to visit with a view to resite the pole but I dont think it will help..sorry.

  • I sometimes read these forums and always wonder what the outcome was so I thought I'd put an update.

After a year of letters, phone calls and emails and many sleepless nights I eventually sent an email to the very top! Ian Livingstone, Chief Exec of BT. The result was an immediate reply, a visit by an engineer 2 days later and the pole removed within 2 weeks!!! Yaaaayyyy not often the little man (or woman in my case) wins :-)

I cannot tell you how relieved I finally am - we're having a pole leaving party lol!!!
