Whilst now "outdated". The SD-254 can be had for 69.95 delivered (wheesh) and the SD-255 can be had for 79.99 delivered (freenet electrical / the atlantic [hienergy] shop).

Just bought the SD-255 from freenet.

My partner deals in both new and second hand electricals, electrical parts and does repairs. There are brands he will not buy for the business, there are brands he'll buy for the business but not for his/my home, there are brands at the right price, and then there's his strongly prefered stuff. I am not gonna ask him to look an SD257 up because he will spend hours explaining to me how the insides work and the development of the model, or the history of panasonic (again) and this is a bloke who NEVER notices he's being ignored! No way am I mentioning appliances! But when it comes to breadmakers... Panasonic are the only brand he would bother looking at for his own kitchen, I have heard plenty enough about thier bl**dy breadmakers!!! So they're probably pretty good, he's a bit of an appliance anorack (can ya tell?)
I refuse to be afraid of the big bad wolf, spiders, or debt collection agencies; one of them's not real and the other two are powerless without my fear.
(Ok, one of them is powerless, spiders can be nasty.)

As of the last count I have cleared
    [STRIKE]23.16%[/STRIKE] 22.49% of my debt. :(
  • Trying to decide between these two breadmakers as well. Everyone says the Panasonic is the one to go for however the Kenwood looks SO GOOD !! I'm buying it as a Christmas present so I need to justify the £20 difference in price. I went into John Lewis and they said even the Kenwood rep recommends the Panasonic ... is there a message here ?

Has anyone managed to find a Panasonic for less than £105 ?

I've used both the Pasnasonic 255 (the new 257's not all that different) & the Kenwood 450 & they both make equally good bread

the Kenwood's my favourite of the two though, it's much more versatile as you can programme it yourself, it has a window & a light! :D & oh yes, it is a real looker ;)

Just looked at Which reviews, yes the Kenwood BM450 is top with 78%, and the Panny is at 75%... however the latter is less noisier, easier to clean, and also has a gluten free option, which is fantastic!!

one winner for me, thanks and buying it now for £100 from Amazon!
