My dog does not like going for a walk - any ideas why?

i have a miniature dachshund, had him since he was nine weeks, and now he is twelve and he absolutely hates walking and always has, been checked over by three different vets and no health problems,we have just come to the conclusion the vets and myself he is a lazy dog,he enjoys running about the garden,he will venture to a small piece of grassland about 50 metres from the house to relieve himself, but no further,so as long as your dog is healthy,i wouldn't worry about it,got to remember some humans will take their car to the shop when its only a 100 yards along the road0

Thanks scotty, I guess that is true, never thought of it like that to be honest.
I have to say though. We had 3 walks yesterday totalling over 2 hours in all.... and in the evening she was sitting on the doormat when I moved the lead. No wagging of tails but it seems this is as excited as she is going to get.
I took her with my friend today and it was horrendous, the 2 dogs just wanted to play on the leads and ended up being a tangled mess and it was extremely hard work and more so because we was walking on the roads to get to the field.0 -
bluemonkey if they are tangling their leads their leads are too long. Don't let them go out on an extender together unless you enjoy undoing crochet.0

They weren't on extenders, we was walking next to each other on nornal leads and they were just lunging at each other and rolling on the ground playing so the leads got tangled up. They just wanted to play. In the end my friend was on one side of the road, I was on the other and we was having to shout at eachother to talk - it was not fun and was really hard work as they were pulling to get to each other. We gave them 50 minutes and came home and let them run up the garden while we had a coffee
However, recently, when I get her harness on she goes and lies down so I cannot get it on but once it is on she then goes and sits on the doorstep, still no wagging tails though. I am going to get a new harness today as I wonder if this one is too bulky, my friend has one that slips over the legs. It'll be a good hour and a half walk to the pet shop so that will be todays walk.0 -
When wanting to walk the two dogs together it might be easier for you to meet somewhere neutral and let them have a bit of a play first. Then walk them on opposite sides with you and your friend in between, keep the leads short. Could you maybe do the coffee before the walk, then the dogs would have used up some of their energy.
It sounds like you are doing a brilliant job so just keep at it.

Thanks, we did decide that next time we would let them have a play for an hour before taking them for a walk. Daft really, we did not think it doing it that way around.
I've bought a new harness today as I was wondering whether the harness was the problem and I bought Lupi one as it is not bulky like the other one was. I bought a new retractable lead as well, not the string type but the lead type and it is 7m so she can get into the grasses I thought I would walk, with the dog, to town to get it and it was further than I anticiapted. 2 1/2 hours there and back. I am eating lunch but there is a danger at the moment that I might not get up. I did some gardening yesterday and my backside hurts so much. I can only hope that it is sculping it into a peach, LOL!!0 -
2.5 hours walk in this heat is a lot for any pooch. It'd be a lot for me actually
