Central Heating Installation & Grants

My partner and I are in the process of buying our first house, we managed to get the property at a bargain price, only problem is that there is no central heating.
The property is a 1950's 3 bed semi, has anyone got any idea a ball park figure for a complete central heating installation. We can't get anyone in to quote for the job yet as we've yet to complete, and we need to get our saving shoes on before the winter kicks in!
Also I've heard you can get a grant for heating from your local council, has anyone has any dealings with this?

Between 3-5k for the heating to be installed.
Yes there are some grants but it depends on your council. Normally they have a requirement that you have lived in the house for 3+ years.0 -
Ouch, didn't realise it was quite that expensive!

Isn't that just in Scotland?
I think it's the Warm Front scheme in England and, essentially, you need to be in receipt of benefits and/or over age 60.Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac
