Possibly dodgy transaction and can he get out of it?

My husband wants a new laptop battery and wants a genuine one and not a rubbish fake import one. He searched for batteries listed as being in the UK and double checked on the item page and it definitely is listed as shipping from the UK.

He bought it on a "buy it now" and paid immediately with PayPal. He was surprised to get an email back saying that the item will take 12 days to arrive.

He wrote back to ask why it would take so long, and could they please confirm the item is a genuine battery being shipped from the UK.

He got a reply back in Chinese writing. He's translated it in Google and the gist of it says they ship from a UK warehouse, but the stock comes from China and they cannot be held responsible for delays due to the ash cloud and cancelled European flights.

Is there anyway he can cancel and get his money back, as he doesn't want a Chinese import battery. If that was stated on the ebay page, he wouldn't have bought it.
Here I go again on my own....

Where do you think laptop batteries are actually made?

Open an Item not received dispute after 7 days?

I'd phone ebay and ask them what to do, as I'd be really p*ssed off if it was from China when the auction said nothing of the sort!
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Why do you care where it's manufactured? Every laptop battery in UK shops will have been manufactured in the Far East.

Did they promise delivery within a certain time frame? If they did you will need to wait until that time has passed then open up a dispute.

The problem is not where it is manufactured.

The problem is he thought he was buying a genuine battery from a UK supplier, but communications after the auction suggest it's a fake Chinese import battery. These are much lower quality than an genuine battery and not worth the BIN price he paid.

Until the OP recieves the battery, then it is merely a suggestion or implication that it is a fake. Just because someone imports goods from the country they are (possibly) manufactured in and then re-ships from a UK address, it doesn't mean it IS fake.

If the battery is DESCRIBED as genuine and turns out to be a fake, then the OP should open a dispute...

Most laptops batteries are manufactured in the far east under the specifications of the manufacturer who monitor them. A lot of the replacement ones are not monitored so have been known to damage hardware. Just because it's made in the same country doesn't mean it was made under the same specifications and adheres to the same safety standards

So yes it does matter if its an original or not

I've now lost two laptops to fake chargers and the costs of getting them repaired were ridiculous. On both occasions the first thing the repair tech shop said was 'where did you buy the battery' and one look at it was enough for them to know what had happened to the laptop.

Yep, they're definitely not good things. I had no idea that batteries differed to any extent at all, and got a cheap battery and charger for my daughter at Christmas. Then a replacement for that one.....! We were lucky that nothing happened to her laptop, but I got a telling off from my son for not asking him first. :o Don't you just love 20-somes.

On the other hand, I've had a few cheapos from ebay and they have been fine. They are one of the simplest things to make. However, I understand people's concerns about these things. If you wish to be sure of an original battery or charger, only buy one which says original. To look for one "shipped from the UK" doesn't do this. They are all made in the far east.
