Selling a chinese style dress

Myself and my partner were going through our clothes over the weekend and found a few thing to sell on ebay to raise some needed cash.
We came across her chinese style dress in red that is 6 months old but as only be worn once and is in excellent condition, it cost £150 when new we thought about putting it on ebay but we had a look first and there are dresses that are pretty much the same but they are only going for £10 each.
the dress is worth more than that is there anywhere else i could sell it or do i just put a reserve on it? problem is we really need the money as we are short for paying the mortgage.

there are quite a few that come up on a search for 'ladies ferrari'
as far as getting lots of money for the dress - that will depend on the photos you use and the description you write. you can put £150 new and worn once to see if that helps.

why was it so expensive? is it s designer brand? the reason i'm asking is if its a recognised brand they tend to reach more on ebay so it may go higher, you may want to search out loacl shops that sell on your behalf, we have one locally that take a percentage of what you make on an item just depends what you are willing to take for it:confused:

There are importers of Chinese dresses that offer them at around the £15-£20. I actually bought myself a couple a few years back and was contacted by them to sell on their behalf on ebay, but the profit margins were tiny as there was so much competition.

Unless you dress is different somehow to the ones already being sold from that importer via various ebay sellers, you are not going to get more for yours than they do for their new.

These cheonsongs are sold in shops in the West End for around the £100 mark, but if you are selling on ebay then you must match or beat the competition. If yours is not a Chinese import then 'talk up' its unique selling points, explain why yours is different, but realistically unless is is completely different to the ones already being sold you are unlikely to get much at all for it. Incidentally the quality of the imported ones I have is quite marvellous, nothing shoddy about them at all, the ones i have are similar to item number 140020665532 (but in a bigger size...) and three years ago I paid approx £24 for each of them direct from China.

  • How much money were you hoping to get for the dress? A reserve price on an ebay auction must be at least £50, and tbh your chances of getting that sort of money for it are very remote. Since many shops have just finished their sales, and a few are still on, it's not really a good time to try to get a sizeable fraction of the original price for a secondhand dress. I recently tried to sell a brand new suit which had originally been priced at £239 in the shop (though I bought it in the sale for considerably less) at a starting price of £11.99, and it didn't get a bid.
  • Personally, I wouldn't pay a lot of money for something I couldn't try on.

Me neither, and I think that's one of the reasons clothes on eBay are often very cheap.
Maka, maybe if you made a photo ad to put on a supermarket board and sell locally, it might make a little more money, but if you're short of cash you might need to rummage for a few more saleable items.
